After serving two years in the Micronesia, Guam mission, my little brother Nate returned this past Friday. He returned to three new babies in the family, and slightly larger nieces and nephews who were ecstatic to see him. Maisie and I spent a fair amount of time making signs to welcome him home, including one for Dany to hold:
Most everyone calls him Natey, and when Maisie was little, she pronounced it "Matey", hence the posters. Nate spent the past two years on tiny, humid jungle islands, with no running water, intermittent power, and a rather small selection of food. One of his regular meals was a tuna, Ramen, ketchup sandwich. Delish! Despite the primitive conditions, Matey told us several rather amazing stories about the people there, and the spirit they all have, even though they lack many worldly "necessities".
Before he left, he commissioned one of the ladies to make skirts for all of us womenfolk, in their native style. The grandkids all dressed up and had a fashion show in their flashy new attire.
As Maisie has said several times in the last few days, we're so happy to have Matey home!
